What Influenced Me...

Here's the Orginal for those who wanna do this: Influence Map Template

Anywhozits, I kinda sorta stole this from TheEnglishGent and theycallhimcake... They both did this on Tumblr, but since some of the people who I tagged on this don't frequent there as much as here, I decided to post it here too.

A big influence for me was D. Grayman. Admittedly, I probably wouldn’t have even realized its existence if not for one of my irl friends recommending Jump Ultimate Stars to me. I managed to catch up fairly quickly (fairly easy since… well… it was on hiatus a lot due to the author being frequently ill). What I loved most was the faces in the manga. Everyone’s face had a different style that didn’t detract from the overall designs when everyone was put together. That kind of thing was one of my end goals. I wanted my characters to be easily distinguishable by face. The action and emotion was beautifully done too. My OC, Rio, was primarily based on the protagonist, Allen Walker with a mix of someone I’ll speak of later. Soul Eater had a very similar effect for the same reasons.

The World Ends With You is definitely to blame for my love of more complex designs and hair/head decs. Seriously. I want you to look at Natsu. She was heavily influenced by the Tigre Punks and Lapin Angelique lines of that game. It also helped me get used to big shoes/feet on “modern” characters. I think TWEWY did it better than Kingdom Hearts in that area (literally everyone sans Neku and Rhyme makes the look work).

Of course one of my bigger influences just has to be an anime I can never freaking find subbed in English *seethe* (thanks a lot for introducing me to Yatterman, Capcom)! It has such a silly and dynamic style that I fell in love with it almost instantly! The style lends itself well to cartoon antics and such, which works wonders for me!

Rhythm Heaven has by far one of the cutest styles for human Nintendo stuff. Future games in particular seem to have a mix of rubberhose and “anime” style that I tend to unconsciously emulate.

Shantae does that whole “sexy/cute” style that I love more than anything. It also has a range of emotion that uses both body and face to convey.

ElixirmyVivzMind, and Misha were the first people I ran into when I joined Deviantart (for the second time). I instantly fell in love with their art styles. Their fluid and packed with beautiful emotion. I couldn’t look away when I first saw their art. And with all three doing great animations and two with beautiful webcomics, they ended up being inspirations in more than one way.

kecomaster and LittleIkki were people I ran into later. Their styles were fluid and cartoony and just plain great to look at. They also have this… amazing sheen in their colors and shades. Again, it’s got that “sexy/cute” cartoon style I love to see. And of course, one of them is currently working on animations, so… YAY!

Ojamajo Doremi and Sonic The Hedgehog were things that affected me since childhood. Ojamajo Doremi had an adorable style that was very fluid and toony, yet soft and perfect for its genre. Sonic has the attitude that Sega was undoubtedly going for, and a nice 90′s and Aughties “cool” aesthetic but is still lighthearted in approach, making a mix that ended up aging like a fine wine.

Thanks for reading if you decided to do so.

TWEWY is a good game and I can't wait for D.Gray Man to come out again. Nice influences you have.
